Spotify Icons and Symbols Explained: Homepage
Here, we’ll talk about the homepage icons and symbols as they are the first thing you see when you open the app. Read below to know the meaning of them:
Home Button:
This is the first page you see when you open the Spotify app. Here you will get personalized playlists, albums and suggestions based on your listening history. You can also see your recent played content lists here.
Search Icon:
A magnifying glass represents the search icon. When you tap on this icon, it will take you to the Spotify’s search bar that you can see on the top. You can search for music, podcasts, artists and more.
Bookshelf Icon:
It is a Your Library icon tap. When you tap on this icon, you will see your saved songs, podcasts and artists you follow. This is one of my favorite features of Spotify. I like to save my favorite songs, podcasts here so I don’t need to search them every time.
Spotify Icon:
This is the icon of Spotify Premium. If you are using a free version of Spotify, you will see this icon next to the Your Library icon tap. This icon encourages users to upgrade premium for different plans and benefits of Spotify.
Profile Icon:
This is a circular icon with your initials within, opening up another side menu revealing some useful options related to your Spotify account like What’s New, Recents, and the Settings and privacy option.
Now Playing Screen Icons and Symbols on Spotify
In this heading, I’ll tell you about the icons and symbols you see when you play a song. There are different icons that are used in different ways and knowing their meanings can help you. Read below mentioned icons meanings:
Partial Downward Arrow:
A small downward arrow that appears on the top left corner when you play a song. By tapping on it, you can minimize the song screen that shows only limited playback controls.
You can use this to browse other songs on the app while you listen to the current one.
3 Dots- Icon:
This icon is located on the top right corner. When you tap on this icon, you will see different options like, add to liked songs, add to playlist, share, go to artist, sleep time. All these options are for your current listening song.
Switch to Video and Switch to Audio Icons:
A recently added option for Spotify Premium users that appears left below the album cover of the song. By tapping on this icon, it will play the official music video of the song on Spotify.
When the video player loads up, this button will show the option of Switch to audio icon.
Plus and Check Icons:
When you tap on the plus + icon, it will add your current playing song to your Liked playlist. Once added, the icon will change into a green checkmark.
You can also remove the song from your Liked playlist by tapping on the green checkmark, clicking on it will show you liked songs lists, from where you can remove the song.
Squared Arrow:
This squared icon means repeating the same song after the current playing song ends. By tapping on this icon, it will show a “1” digit within the icon that means the current song will repeat only once.
Desktop + Remote Icon:
This is a connection device option that allows you to control Spotify playback on your computer from your mobile. By tapping it, you can use your phone as a remote control to play, pause, skip and adjust the volume of the music playing on your computer.
Parallel lines:
The parallel lines that appear on the right of the share icon bring up the list of the upcoming songs in your playlist queue. You can tap on any song of your choice to start listening.
Opposite Facing Arrows Icon:
This icon shows on the top of Spotify’s lyrics section on the song screen. By tapping on it, you can expand the lyrics of the song and can sing along with the song to enhance your listening experience.
